Electrolytes is a natural concentrate for preparing mineral hydration solutions (hypotonic drinks). It primarily contains essential electrolytes (sodium and potassium), followed by some minerals and trace elements found in the Adriatic Sea.

The electrolyte solution significantly enhances water absorption (hydration) during physical activity. It helps maintain the proper level of sodium in the body, thus contributing to performance maintenance. It reduces the risk of muscle cramps, contributes to reducing the level of fatigue and exhaustion, and accelerates recovery.

At IONTMAX, we pride ourselves on the simplicity, precision, and functionality of our products. IONTMAX Electrolytes – a concentrate for preparing hypotonic (ionic) drinks, has been designed for quick and easy replenishment of sodium levels and hydration during sports activities or races. The concentrate is based on sea salt (Adriatic Sea concentrate), sodium citrate for faster sodium absorption, and potassium chloride as a source of potassium. The concentrate contains the recommended sodium to potassium ratio (3.5:1).

The fundamental building blocks ensuring the functionality of this product are sodium and potassium. The minerals and trace elements contained in sea salt provide a mild benefit to this product.

Practically every type of sea salt contains a wide spectrum of different minerals and trace elements in quantities that are entirely negligible. For your reference, we provide a list of minerals that could be included with a similar product (perhaps as “mineral analysis results” or similar):

Despite the potential beneficial effects of these minerals on the human body, we do not attach great importance to them in terms of hydration during activity. Sodium is the crucial mineral for proper hydration, not Lutetium or any other mineral at a quantity of 0.001 mg/l, which is 20,000 times lower than the sodium content in this product. Sodium plays a key role in maintaining fluid balance, transmitting nerve signals, and muscle function. It belongs to the group of electrolytes responsible for maintaining normal heart rhythm and nervous system function.

Generally, for hydration, we recommend using our HydroDrink. You can determine the strength of HydroDrink you need here.

However, there may be situations where preparing HydroDrink is not possible (e.g., during a running race, etc.), and in these moments, the electrolyte concentrate finds its application. You can quickly dose it into water or any other beverage (preferably slightly sweetened) to increase its sodium concentration to better match your sodium losses through sweat (I want to find out sodium losses).

The advantage of the concentrate is its very small packaging, easy opening, and dosing. Compared to “salt tablets,” its absorbability is much higher and simpler. Sodium in the form of ions (Na+) in the solution is readily available for absorption in the digestive system since it is already in dissolved form and the body does not need to further dissolve it. On the other hand, when taking salt tablets containing sodium, the body must first dissolve the tablet in the stomach to release sodium into the solution. This process takes longer and can be influenced by many factors, such as stomach pH and the content of other substances in the digestive system. The overall burden on the digestive tract is thus higher.

The concentrate contains a minimal amount of magnesium to avoid burdening the body and digestive tract during activity.

Simplified dosing view: One package of IONTMAX Electrolytes contains approximately 4,500 mg of sodium. With a sweat rate of 1 liter per hour and sodium losses around 1,000 mg/l, we can say that one package of concentrate is sufficient for an activity or race lasting 4.5 hours. This approach can then be used for dosing during the race.
